Tradition and innovation meet to create a new material that, consistent with the chromosomes that have always characterised LAGO design, expands the company’s product line
Villa Del Conte (PD), 10 June 2015
After the success of Wildwood, LAGO is continuing its research into fine materials and introducing an element rich in history: handmade ceramics.
Designed by Daniele Lago, MadeTerraneo developed out of a trip to Portugal and plays on the contrast between innovation and tradition. The tradition has its roots in the distant past and mixes Arab and European culture, transforming small squares of handmade ceramic into little works of art that have been widely used, in various historical periods, to decorate interiors as well as exteriors. LAGO taps into that tradition, maintaining the square form of the base module that is then, however, arranged in irregular shapes and emphasised, to the point of almost becoming a giant pixel.
The new MadeTerraneo finish can be used throughout the home: it can be a counter with an integrated sink in the kitchen, a table or a bench, also for use outdoors, or it can be an element that extends the architecture of the room dialoguing with the other LAGO furnishings and transforming into a shelf or other practical surface.
In the 36e8 MadeTerraneo kitchen, the transparent glass legs contrast with the physicality of the counter, almost disappearing. The result is that the monolithic top, which also seamlessly integrates the sink, almost seems to float in the air.
In the kitchen, the MadeTerraneo counter creates perfect work surfaces for preparing food that, as needed, can also serve as a kitchen table. The pattern can also be continued on the wall, to create a ceramic surface that dialogues with the kitchen or becomes a MadeTerraneo bench.
The intrinsic beauty of ceramic also offers great practical advantages in the kitchen: it is an extremely durable material, resistant to bumps, scratches and sudden changes in temperature, and it is also hygienic and easy to clean.
